One Health (MPhil)

Description: A two-year, full-time programme delivered by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) — Ghana's leading infectious disease research centre — and the first comprehensive One Health graduate programme in the country. It prepares professionals to address emerging and re-emerging health challenges at the human–animal–environment interface, blending coursework, laboratory training, field activities and a supervised thesis using NMIMR's world-class facilities. Core courses include Advanced Concepts in One Health, Research Methods and Biostatistics, One Health Epidemiology, Ethics/Law & Policy, Outbreak Preparedness and Response, and Disease Vectors and Control, alongside laboratory and molecular sciences (Pathogen Genomics and Bioinformatics, Pathogen–Host Immunology, Molecular Cell Biology) and applied field-based training including community and industrial internships. Electives cover One Health for Nutrition, Experimental Diagnostics, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Food and Water Safety. The research component comprises a minimum of nine months of supervised research, two graduate seminars and a defended thesis (total 60–72 credits). Graduates can work in public health agencies, research and diagnostic laboratories, government ministries, veterinary and environmental health sectors, NGOs and international organisations (WHO, UNICEF, FAO, USAID), or progress to PhD study.

Admission Requirements: A good first degree in a related field (Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Environmental Health, Allied Health Sciences or similar). Applicants may be invited for an interview. Non-English-speaking applicants must provide English proficiency results from the University of Ghana Language Centre (valid for 2 years).
