MPhil in Molecular Cell Biology of Infectious Diseases
Admission requirements
Two-year programme combining one year of didactic coursework and one year of supervised research on the molecular cell biology of infectious pathogens in Sub-Saharan Africa. Coursework covers bacteria, viruses, fungi, helminths and protozoan pathogens, with training in epidemiology, biostatistics, pathogen biology, disease pathogenesis, immune responses, and drug and vaccine development targets. Electives include advanced protein chemistry, signal transduction, disease vectors, and biotechnology applications. Students complete original research for dissertation and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Suited to biomedical scientists pursuing research careers in academia, industry, government institutions and NGOs across the sub-region.
Admission Requirements: Good first degree (minimum Second Class Lower) in biological or physical sciences; at least 9 credit hours in Chemistry, Biochemistry and/or Molecular Biology. An entrance exam and a selection interview required.
